With a span of 25 metres, the structure has a slight curve and a gentle slope, following the natural topography of the site. The deck, which consists of a thin and sleek structure in ultra-high performance fibre-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC), is supported underneath by a pre-stressed beam with a tapered profile. The lack of a structure above the deck opens up views of the surrounding landscape through a slim and discreet guardrail. A ‘topographic chicane’ combining a gently sloping ramp and a few steps provides a safe connection to and an unobstructed view of Route de Troinex. The key decisions made in the design – such as placement, geometry and structural optimisation – address constraints inherent in the project and the setting: the flood levels of the Drize, accessibility for people with reduced mobility, growth of fauna and flora underneath the structure, conservation of the biggest trees, reduction of the structure’s impact on the banks, safety and flow of routes, and integration into the site.
