In the past, two banks and two cantons, marked by two gateways – tomorrow, another branch of the river and the appearance of an island. This change of context makes it possible to design the project as a single footbridge, a single structure with an intermediate support, which turns out to be an island – a landing island, a slightly elevated lookout. The structural elements of the existing construction guide reflections on conservation and reuse. Existing foundation blocks, abutments and cable-stayed masts made of reinforced concrete can be preserved and strengthened to be used again. Maintaining the mast on the left bank, the only one to be preserved in response to the new context, allows the long-span (80 m) weathering steel structure to respond in a similar way to the one on the right bank (60 m), thus contributing to the unity of the structure despite their different spans and structural systems.
