The Charbonnière footbridge is designed to resemble a fine, sleek and discreet work of art that elevates its alluvial surroundings. Its contribution to the experience of walking along the banks and crossing the river aims to unlock views of the natural landscape. A beam of constant height along its entire length, consisting of identical, low-rise voussoirs prefabricated in UHPC, forms the deck. It is supported by a central pile in the Rhone bed and reinforced by a UHPC beam. Finally, the longitudinal prestressing, external but protected by the deck, anchored to the ends of the three assembled sections and prestressed at the site, ensures the stability of the structure. In this way, the deck helps reduce stress, facilitates assembly and increases rigidity by placing the material where it is needed and effective. The result is a low-maintenance and lightweight structure that is attractive both in terms of economics and sustainability.
