Running parallel to the river, where its bank protrudes outwards slightly, the site lies between the peaceful Quai Ernest-Ansermet, and the lively Yvoy and Carl-Vogt Boulevards.
The development stands adjacent to and in line with the Sciences II and Sciences III buildings, but is clearly separate from the Institute of Physics, marking the end of the block. This showcases the heritage of the building, which appears as a pavilion in its new green surroundings, while restoring its independence. In keeping with the character of the existing architecture, the space between these two structures is dedicated to major auditorium spaces, forming a connecting element. Opposite the Institute of Physics, the generous recess of the ground floor becomes a covered entrance arcade. This pedestrian public space enhances the porous nature of the Plainpalais district, from Boulevard Carl-Vogt to Quai de l’Arve. With its façade fitted with solar panels, the building appears to be dressed in sparkling pixels, a nod to its scientific purpose.
