Wine cellar renovation and extension, Satigny

Dating from the late 13th century, this structure was originally a farmhouse before becoming the main building of this winery. Preserving the building’s traditional character is a key aim in the renovation and extension of this wine cellar.

In the existing structure, the efficiency of the thermal envelope will be enhanced to ensure user comfort, limit overheating in summer and reduce energy consumption. This work will be done using the existing building material, keeping the wooden structure visible in its entirety while protecting the framework.
The extension to the existing building is divided into two parts. The first will house an ageing area for 122 barrels and a tasting space, while the second, more technical part will house various storage and bottling areas and an unloading dock. This extension blends into the topography of the site. Mostly underground, only one part is visible to visitors: the tasting space where they find themselves up close and personal with the wine as it ages, rooted in the soil that gives the grape variety its character, or terroir.
